![]() ![]() ![]() Tobin’s speech about Carol’s strength deriving from the fact that she’s a mother seemed important, especially considering Maggie’s struggles this week. (Translation: “ We’ve got tonight, know what I’m saying, big guy?”) Early on, Carol wooed-bullied him with the cookies - “Just put it in your mouth, jerk” - and then later, over a cigarette, got Tobin to admit his affection. (Please tell me if I’m forgetting someone.) Tobin had been a marginal Alexandrian whom the writers seemed to be keeping around for a reason. (All credit to Seth Gilliam, who sold Gabriel’s emergence as a mean servant of God, to invoke another Tarantino script, as believably as he previously portrayed Gabriel the Meek.)Ĭarol finally got lucky, I believe for the first time on this show, post-Ed. Even Father Gabriel took a life, doing his best Jules Winnfield impersonation in the process by reciting Bible verses before he pulled the trigger. We referred earlier to Glenn, who killed his first non-zombies and didn’t seem thrilled about it. was back, Rick was saying “we’re gonna have to fight” and dark clouds literally appeared on the horizon. Carol did her Betty Crocker routine, baking everyone acorn and beet cookies - a dessert absolutely destined to appear in some Brooklyn bakery soon - as a jangly tune ( “Weeds or Wildflowers” by Parsonsfield) cheerfully warned that “I’ve lived enough to know the battle’s never through.” Sure enough, soon the R.V. Titled “Not Tomorrow Yet,” the hour opened with a delightful montage that offered a tantalizing glimpse of the sort of neighborly tomorrow Alexandria can aspire to, while hinting at the obstacles in its path. The capture was a face-palm of a denouement to a tense, nervy episode that inaugurated the clash with the Saviors quicker perhaps than most viewers expected. ![]() (Does anyone really think Carol would’ve been taken if she hadn’t been babysitting her?) Now Maggie’s briefly victorious comrades are caught in the clutches of what we’ve been led to believe are the most vicious opponents we’ve seen on “The Walking Dead.” So … nice job by her. Her resulting capture thwarted an otherwise shockingly successful effort, undercutting her husband’s great moral sacrifice, and jeopardized the other person most invested in keeping her safe. Spock, but it seems like high on the list of rules for expectant mothers, right up there with not smoking cigarettes or eating cold cuts, would be this: Do not engage in armed raids on postapocalyptic pirate strongholds.Īnd yet there Maggie was in Sunday’s “Walking Dead,” not long after seeing her offspring for the first time, demanding, against all better judgment and the urging of Glenn and others, to participate in the attack on the Saviors. ![]()
